Why i use Linux?
My general thought in using Linux........
From the Begenning….
Nowadays there are only two major operating systems available for our computers, Windows OS and Mac OS X. One day, suddenly I’ve realized that Windows and OS X are both full of bloatware which I find really annoying, primarily because I like everything to be perfectly aligned in the order I want it to be. After a little bit of googling on the internet I’ve found many interesting operating systems which were available for me, but none of them seemed as a long term project which will continue to grow, except a few similar ones. From my computer experience I’ve been listening to people talking about Linux Kernel, but I didn’t want to know much about it. Time has passed, and I’ve finally picked one which I liked. And it’s name is Manjaro.
Ubuntu on virtual machine
while working on a Djnago project i feel kinda scare of the Django shell (where we test sql database and other….). And Windows cmd . Then i thought i’ve to learn some terminal commands to feel comfortable with my system. I immediatly download Ubuntu iso and boot up it on a virtual machine.
After a day i learned creating folder, file, installing program and other basic stuff. I kinda feel comfortable with the terminal and installed ubuntu terminal on windows afterword.
Honestly , it dosen’t felt the same when i used it on a virtual machine. After sometimes using it i feel something is missing. Something isn’t quite right.
I told my situation to one of my friend and now he suggest me to dual boot windows with a Linux Distro.
Then I finally dual booted windows with Manjaro KDE and made it my coding station.
From, then till now i’m still using Manjaro. At first i sared of removing my personal files while installing Manjaro or broke my system. Or i might accidently delete my whole SSD in the process. But it all went well.
After few months was novoice wth my terminal. I switched bash to zsh+oh_my_zsh plugins+power10kshell theme with fastest run time. switched to graphical file manager to ranger file manager, image viewer as sxiv, Vlc to mpv , vs code to neovim. I even watch youtube video on mpv now. Isn’t it cool? Now, Most of my program are terminal based.
It’s so efficiant to work with terminal then using a graphical interface.
Here’s some Screenshot of my current linux desktop:
Conclusion
Linux is a user friendly operating system which is trying to get its attention, but maybe it’s time just hasn’t come yet. Power users may find it difficult that there are no their favorite apps, but still there are free alternatives which may fit your needs. Switching to it made me a favor, as there are no more annoying Windows apps which many of you didn’t even know existed, so I’m finally free of bloatware.
